Ifølge Dagbladet trodde Sarah Palin at Afrika var et land. Kanskje ikke så rart i all den tid vestlige medier stort sett refererer til kontinentet som om det faktisk var det.

Man kan sikkert ha det mye moro med Palins manglende urix-kunnskaper. Personlig gleder jeg meg til Joe Bidens "foot-in-the-mouth"- uttalelser, så jeg tror ikke vi har gått glipp av så mye moro i årene fremover.

Ifølge VG vender amerikanske kvinner ryggen til Sarah Palin. Vi vet jo fra før at kvinner på høyresida ikke teller som kvinner, for vi er jo som regel ikke organisert i en sosialistisk kvinnebevegelse som er for økt statlig kontroll. For min del vender jeg ryggen til kvinnebevegelser som vender ryggen til Sarah Palin, men så er jeg da heller ikke amerikansk.

Men kampen om de kvinnelige velgerne blir tøffere, og Obama-kampanjen angriper McCain for å være kvinnefiendtlig, blant annet fordi han ikke støtter et likelønnsforslag i senatet. Men ifølge Boston Herald tjener kvinnene i Obamas stab i senatet mindre enn McCains. Det Demokrater trenger en lov for å gjennomføre, gjør altså John McCain uten videre. En klassisk "put you money where your mouth is".

Obamas stab: "Obama?s 28 male staffers divided among themselves total payroll expenditures of $1,523,120. Thus, Obama?s average male employee earned $54,397. Obama?s 30 female employees split $1,354,580 among themselves, or $45,152, on average."

McCains stab: "McCain?s 17 male staffers split $916,914, thus averaging $53,936. His 25 female employees divided $1,396,958 and averaged $55,878.

On average, according to these data, women in McCain?s office make $1.04 for every dollar a man makes. In fact, all other things being equal, a typical female staffer could earn 21 cents more per dollar paid to her male counterpart - while adding $10,726 to her annual income - by leaving Obama?s office and going to work for McCain."

Med andre ord:

"In short, these statistics suggest that McCain is more than fair with his female employees, while Obama - at the expense of the women who work for him - quietly perpetuates the very same pay-equity divide that he loudly denounces."

Sarah Palin skuffet Demokratene (og norske politiske kommentatorer) da hun besto den første prøven som visepresidentkandidat under et kritisk intervju med Charlie Gibson og ABC News. Men flere har mobbet henne for å avklare hva Gibson mente da han spurte om hun støttet Bush-doktrinen:

Gibson: Do you agree with the Bush doctrine?

Palin: In what respect, Charlie?

Gibson: The Bush -- well, what do you -- what do you interpret it to be?

Palin: His worldview.

Gibson: No, the Bush doctrine, enunciated September 2002, before the Iraq war.

Palin: I believe that what President Bush has attempted to do is rid this world of Islamic extremism, terrorists who are hellbent on destroying our nation. There have been blunders along the way, though. There have been mistakes made. And with new leadership, and that's the beauty of American elections, of course, and democracy, is with new leadership comes opportunity to do things better.

Gibson: The Bush doctrine, as I understand it, is that we have the right of anticipatory self-defense, that we have the right to a preemptive strike against any other country that we think is going to attack us. Do you agree with that?

Palin: I agree that a president's job, when they swear in their oath to uphold our Constitution, their top priority is to defend the United States of America.

I Wahington Post skriver Charles Krauthammer at det ikke var Palin, men Gibson, som ikke var informert. Det var Krauthammer som myntet begrepet "the Bush doctrine" og Gibson tar feil når han påstår at dette kun omhandler forebyggende angrep:

"I know something about the subject because, as the Wikipedia entry on the Bush doctrine notes, I was the first to use the term. In the cover essay of the June 4, 2001, issue of the Weekly Standard entitled, "The Bush Doctrine: ABM, Kyoto, and the New American Unilateralism," I suggested that the Bush administration policies of unilaterally withdrawing from the ABM treaty and rejecting the Kyoto protocol, together with others, amounted to a radical change in foreign policy that should be called the Bush doctrine. "

There is no easy way to tell you this, Joe Biden, but the surest way for Joe Biden to lose a debate against Sarah Palin is by being Joe Biden. If you are windy, pompous, unctuous, or pushy, you will come across as patronizing and condescending?the guy who puts the "boy" into "old boys' network." If you flirt and smirk and flatter (Did you truly tell an Ohio crowd you thought Palin was "good-looking"? Did you really introduce us to your wife, Jill, by leering that she is "drop-dead gorgeous"?), you're going to sound like the creepy guy in the trench coat at the back of the porn theater.
